Prince Harry, Meghan Markle miss fashion’s biggest night again

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle skipped the Met Gala 2026 as they put an end to speculation that they might finally make their debut at one of fashion’s most exclusive nights.

Despite the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s close connections with influential figures like co-chair Beyoncé and tennis icon Venus Williams, the pair did not appear at the New York fundraiser.

The event, which supports the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute, has only seen two royals so far; Princess Diana and Princess Beatrice.

The former Princess of Wales made a historic appearance at Met Gala in 1996 when she turned heads in a sleek Dior slip dress designed by John Galliano.

In 2018, daughter of former Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson graced the event when she stepped onto the Met steps, marking one of the few moments a royal attended the high-fashion spotlight.

Recently, Meghan opened up about her views on fashion, saying it goes far beyond just clothes and plays a strong role in how people express themselves

Speaking with The Weekly, the former Suits star said, “Fashion is one of the most powerful industries.”

“It influences how we feel and what we project. And even if you don’t say a word, you can convey something in what you wear.

“Over the last several years, I would hear about an incorrect designer getting credit for something I wore, either via affiliate links or press, and that never seemed fair.”

She continued, “Credit where credit is due. These brands and designers work so hard and take great pride in their work, and I choose them for a reason.

“Either supporting a friend, being brand loyal… it’s always been important to me that the correct designer is credited.”
