“Farewell and thank you for the warmth of your welcome and the kind support you gave us throughout our first visit to the US as King and Queen, in this, your special anniversary year,” the message read posted beside a photo of the couple and the statue of liberty.

“We leave a piece of our (heart) behind and take a little of yours back home with us. Until the next time… God Bless America,” they added.

It was signed “Charles R. & Camilla R.”

The visit saw Charles and Camilla travel across Washington, D.C. and New York City, where they attended several major events, including a historic speech to Congress marking 250 years of American independence.

Their schedule included a meeting at the White House with Donald Trump and Melania Trump, a state banquet and meetings with business leaders.

The monarch and the Queen Consort also paid tribute at the 9/11 memorial in New York during their high-profile visit.

Trump praised Charles during the visit, calling him a great king. “Really great people. We need more people like that in our country,” he said while waving off the couple.

“He’s a great king. The greatest king in my book,” the US President added.
