King Charles just had the entire room in rib tickling laughter with his quip about British colonial rule ahead of the 250th anniversary of American Independence that is to take place during the King’s State Visit.

This particular bit dropped on day 2, during a banquet and the people saw him say, “If I may say so it’s a particular pleasure to be back in this wonderful building, the heart of your democracy. On this occasion I cannot help noticing the re-adjustments to the East Wing Mr President following your visit to Windsor Castle last year and I’m sorry to say that we British of course made our own small attempt at real estate re-development of the White House in 1814…”

It was only after a little detour referencing France and the States in the U.S. that he finally made the joke and it landed with the words, “…Indeed you recently commented Mr President, that if it were not for the United States European countries would be speaking German dare I say if it weren’t for us you’d be speaking French.”

He also said, “and yes we have had our moments of difficulty, even in more recent history when my mother visited in 1957 not the least of her tasks was to help put the ‘special’ back into our relationship after a crisis in the Middle East. Nearly 70 years on its hard to imagine anything like that happening today…”
