Chaos erupts ahead of Shakira's hotly anticipated concert
The tragedy, it seems, casts a shadow over the much-anticipated Shakira's concert
Just days before the show, a tragedy struck at Shakira's hotly anticipated concert in Brazil, set for May 2 on Copacabana Beach.
The show, part of the Latin singer's Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour, took a nightmare turn when a technician, who was setting up a sprawling stage for the pop singer, was crushed to death.
A post shared by organizers Todo Mundo No Rio on Instagram gave further details, “The event organisers confirm that an accident this Sunday afternoon (April 26th) tragically claimed the life of a professional who was working on assembling the structures for the show.”
“First responders provided initial care at the scene, and the fire department was immediately called to transport the patient. Unfortunately, the professional passed away at the hospital.”
“At this time, we are providing all support, comfort, and solidarity to the responsible company, its team, and the victim's family,” the statement concluded.
According to AFP, witnesses on the ground retold the chaos erupting “out of nowhere" as people were running. And when we looked, the structure was on the ground.”
As the stage fell, "a man had gotten trapped underneath, and people were rushing to pull him out.”
However, the person's injuries proved too fatal.
Shakira's concert at Rio's famous shoreline, however, will go ahead.
