King Charles’ State Visit to the US set to begin: Everything to know about the itinerary

King Charles’ will be heading out to the U.S. today, for his State Visit in Washington D.C. New York and Virginia.

The event will also correspond with the 250th anniversary of American Independence from British rule, and the world will see him head back on May 2nd, 2026.

The cities included are as follows;

  1. Washington: Marking America's 250th anniversary
  2. New York: Highlighting the modern UK-US relationship through culture, community and economic growth
  3. Virginia: Connecting with local communities, heritage and nature

In terms of the day-to-day breakdown here is what will happen;

Day 1

The day of their arrival, the King will have tea in the Green Room, get a tour of the White House, and sit alongside his wife, US President Donald Trump and also First Lady Melania Trump, at the South Portico of the White House.

Day 2:

The day will begin with a State Arrival Ceremony on the South Lawn. After that formal welcoming will commence, and the public will see the King and Queen being honored with military honours by the United States Army Herald Trumpets.

After that a 21-gun salute from the Presidential Salute Battery will also happen, led by the United States Marine Band.

Shortly thereafter an inspection of the troops, will also be seen, accompanied by the US Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps. Lastly remarks by the President will follow the showcasing.

Next comes an appearance at the Blue Room Balcony for a “Pass in Review” of 300 US service members, as well as 500 personnel from all six armed forces branches. Only after that will they be taken to sign the White House guest book, s in an official gift exchange and join a receiving line with US and UK delegations.

After this the schedule splits, with King Charles holding a bilateral meeting in the Oval Office. Queen Camilla will be joined separately for a cross-cultural event with students at the White House Tennis Pavilion, using virtual reality and AI tools to explore UK–US ties with the First Lady.

Lastly King Charles has a second event of the day, one that will see him inside British Congress, becoming the first British monarch to do so since 1991.

The evening will be the only official time the King and Queen will be seen together, and that will be for the State Dinner, in the East Room of the White House.

Day 3:

The next day will also include a trip to New York City, where the King and Queen are slated to attend the 25th anniversary of the September 11 memorial with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, but they will also to meet with first responders.

Their trip to Virginia will take place on the same day, and it is there that they will celebrate 250 years since the United States’ founding. The event will also be followed by a community “block party”.

Day 4:

The final day is when King Charles and Queen Camilla will bid the President and his First Lady farewell, which will take place at the South Portico of the White House. Before the actual departure, a ceremony will also be conducted in the Diplomatic Reception Room. Before the monarchs head off to Bermuda for their fifth and sixth day outside of the UK.
