King Charles is headed to Washington, D.C. on Monday for a high-profile state visit aimed at marking the United States’ 250th anniversary.

The visit is also made to strengthen ties between the two nations as political tensions linger, Daily Mail reported.

It comes after a shooting at a dinner attended by Donald Trump prompted a last-minute security review, though officials confirmed the trip would go ahead as planned and no one was harmed.

While Trump has praised Charles and downplayed political disagreements, a growing rift between the UK government and the US over issues like Iran and NATO has added pressure to the visit.

Due to the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents' Dinner at a Washington hotel on Saturday night, concerns were raised on security-related issues.

However, a Buckingham Palace spokesman confirmed that the visit will go ahead with BBC claiming that there would be minor changes in Charles' schedule.

"Following discussions on both sides of the Atlantic through the day, and acting on advice of the government, we can confirm the state visit by Their Majesties will proceed as planned," the statement read.

It added, "The King and Queen are most grateful to all those who have worked at pace to ensure this remains the case and are looking forward to the visit getting underway tomorrow."
