TFC goalkeeper Luka Gavran scores dramatic late equaliser against Philadelphia Union
Luka Gavran pushed forward in the final moments and headed home across from Alonso Coello in the sixth minute of overtime
A dramatic stoppage-time goal from goalkeeper Luka Gavran rescued a 3-3 draw for Toronto FC in a thrilling game against the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday.
Gavran pushed forward in the final moments and headed home across from Alonso Coello in the sixth minute of overtime, extending Toronto’s unbeaten run to seven matches after a difficult start to the season.
Philadelphia had looked set to win after Nathan Harriel scored in the 89th minute, to restore the visitors’ lead.
Earlier, Toronto had fought back from a two-goal deficit. The Union took control with first-half and early second-half goals from Milan Iloski and Danley Jean Jacques .
Josh Sargent pulled one back in the 56th minute after going past defenders before finishing past goalkeeper Andre Blake.
Kobe Franklin then levelled in the 64th minute with a composed strike from the right side of the box.
Toronto thought they had taken the lead late on, but a goal from Daniel Salloi was ruled out for offside.
Despite conceding again late, Gavran’s unlikely intervention ensured Toronto salvaged a point in front of home fans at BMO Field.
