Iran war has no deadline, says Trump, denying midterms influence on his decisions

US President Donald Trump has said there is “no time frame” for the ongoing conflict with Iran, rejecting claims that political considerations such as the midterm elections are shaping his decisions.

Speaking with Fox News, Trump stressed that there was “no time pressure” on the ceasefire he extended earlier this week or on the timing of future peace talks.

Asked when the conflict might end, Trump said there was “no time frame” and indicated there was no urgency to conclude negotiations.

The war has now entered its seventh week, despite earlier expectations that it could last between four and six weeks.

Addressing speculation about domestic politics influencing his strategy, Trump said: “People say I want to get it over because of the midterms, not true,” adding that the administration’s priority was to “get a good deal for the American people.”

The president also confirmed that the US would continue its naval blockade of Iranian ports, even as the ceasefire remains in place without a fixed end date.
