YouTube expands direct messaging experiment to 31 countries
YouTube messaging feature lets users share videos privately and invite friends to chat inside the app
YouTube has brought back direct messaging for its users, and this time it’s expanding fast. YouTube Product Manager Alex Johnson said the platform is rolling out a DM testing to 31 European countries.
The feature now allows users aged 18 and older to send private messages and share video content through the YouTube app, which was previously limited only to Poland and Ireland.
The project plans to develop a video sharing system which enables users to share content with others through an easy and fast process. The feature aims to make video sharing more social and convenient for users.
Countries with YouTube DM feature
YouTube's DM feature has been launched in multiple countries which include Austria Belgium Bulgaria Croatia Cyprus Czech Republic Denmark Estonia Finland France Germany Greece Hungary Iceland Ireland Italy Latvia Liechtenstein Lithuania Luxembourg Malta Netherlands Norway Poland Portugal Romania Slovakia Slovenia Spain Sweden and Switzerland.
The new feature allows users to share the video with their friends while inviting additional people to join the chat after they accept their invitation.
This feature will allow the users to send private messages after writing a message or sending a video to someone. A notification alerts them when an invite is accepted. This way, users can enhance the way they use YouTube beyond listening to music or watching videos.
The experiment is limited to only in European countries, Johnson highlights while announcing the expansion. US users will not have access yet. The company plans to monitor usage and feedback before considering a wider rollout.
