Charli xcx spills why she's dropped the idea of having kids
The British singer-songwriter explained what made her rethink having kids
Charli xcx has no plans for having kids for now.
In an upcoming episode of the Smartless podcast dropping on Monday, February 2, the Brat hitmaker revealed that growing up as an only child could be the reason she will never consider becoming a mother.
"I don’t have any siblings. I actually think not having siblings actually means that you miss out on a lot of conflict, and I mean that in, actually, a bad way," Charli began.
"I think my friends that have siblings are so much better at conflict, as in, they don’t, kind of, amplify it into this huge dramatic thing,” she explained.
Charli, whose real name is Charlotte Emma Aitchison, continued, “They’re able to move through it a lot more quickly than I am because they know how to diffuse it. The only people you have to really fight with is your parents, who are this figure of authority in a way.”
“The clash feels far more drastic. There isn’t a sibling to, kind of, just diffuse it a bit and make it less of a big deal. So it feels really gigantic,” she added.
When the podcast cohost inquired if Charli is implying she would have more kids, to which she responded, “I actually don’t really want to have kids.”
However, she admitted her decision could "change" in the future.
“I love the fantasy of having a child. Like, naming it sounds so fun. But I’m like, that is exactly a sign to me as to why I should not have one,” the British singer-songwriter noted, adding, “The fact that that feels like the coolest part about it, I’m like, ‘Maybe I’m not ready.’”
