Charli XCX reveals why she wants brat summer to 'stop'
Charli XCX is no longer into brat summer
Charli XCX is saying bye to brat summer and welcoming a change.
Charli was at the Eccles Theatre on Friday for the premieres of Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex, and writer-director Aidan Zamiri’s feature debut, The Moment, both of which contain impressive performances from the singer.
After the premieres of the films at the Sundance Film Festival, Charli told the crowd, "Right now, unlike the me in [The Moment], I am sort of really wanting brat to stop. And actually really pivot as far away from it as possible. And that’s not because I don’t love it, it’s just because I think for all of us as artists, you wanna challenge yourself."
Gushing over Olivia Wilde’s double feature The Invite, and the fact that Charlie is in three films at the festival, including The Gallerist, Araki raved on the red carpet, "This is like the Charli XCX, Olivia Sundance, and we’re all just happy to be here."
The Moment is a mockumentary about Charli’s meteoric rise to fame and her attempts to retain creative freedom and her iidentity.
"Obviously, this film is about the end of brat summer," noted Zamiri after the screening. "But hopefully, everyone can in some way find how it relates to them and the terror of letting something go."
Charli’s The Moment will hit theatres on January 30, 2026, and I Want Your Sex was released on January 23.
