Gwyneth Paltrow breaks silence on enduring 'harsh stuff' amid divorce from Chris Martin
Gwyneth Paltrow finally shares how her 'nasty divorce' from Chris Martin affected her career
Gwyneth Paltrow recently revealed how her divorce from Chris Martin affected her career.
On the Tuesday, January 6 episode of Good Hang with Amy Poehler, the 53-year-old American actress and businesswoman opened up about the adverse effects of her high-profile split from Martin, especially on her flourishing career in Hollywood.
For those unaware, Paltrow and the 48-year-old English singer-songwriter and musician tied the knot in 2003 and separated in 2014; however, their divorce was finalized in 2016.
The Shakespeare in Love actress, who welcomed two children, daughter Apple Blythe Alison Martin, 21, and son Moses Bruce Paltrow Martin, 19, with Martin, revealed to the host, “I was supposed to do a movie at one point and it was like right after the conscious uncoupling thing with Chris, and there was a lot of harsh stuff in the press.”
She continued, “I think the distributor was like, this might be too hot to touch.”
Paltrow went on to sarcastically state, “So that was great because I was getting a divorce and then I got fired off. So it was so awesome.”
In addition, the Marty Supreme star articulated her thoughts about the phrase “consciously uncouple,” which she and the Coldplay frontman used, announcing their divorce in 2014, which made waves at that time.
Now, after more than ten years, Paltrow confessed she is fully aware of the reason why their use of the term did not sit well with people.
The mother of two explained, “Say you had had a really nasty divorce, or your parents had had a really nasty divorce. And then you hear this idea that like, it doesn't have to be done this way. I think the implicit learning is like, 'Oh, f****. Like, they're saying I did something wrong.’”
She clarified that she did not deliberately suggest that concept by quipping, “That makes sense to me, like, 'Oh no, is the inference that I mess someone up.' Like, that's not a nice thing to contemplate. So, I do understand why it was so personal for people.”
It is pertinent to mention that Gwyneth Paltrow has been married to producer Brad Falchuk since 2018.
