King Charles desires closer relationship with his US-based grandchildren
Reports say King Charles frets over the absence of his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, as he battles cancer
Over the last few years, King Charles faced several challenges. First, with his health, when he was diagnosed with cancer. Then, his brother, Andrew, whose controversies were becoming too big to manage for the royal family.
However, what arguably weighed the most in the monarch's mind was probably the absence of his son Prince Harry's kids, Archie and Lilibet.
The children, along with the Sussexes, moved permanently across the pond when they stepped back from their royal duties in 2020.
Now, Charles, who is recovering from cancer as well as aware of his delicate age, wants to broaden his rather limited relationship with his grandchildren.
In light of this, an insider tells Closer magazine, "The situation weighs on Charles a lot more than he lets on; these are his grandchildren, his flesh and blood. He wants to get to know them in the time he has left."
Sources note, though, that the 77-year-old is recovering well, but "he’s nearly 80, and he can’t wait forever to form a bond with them."
In contrast to Charles relationship with Prince William's kids, insiders say, "He’s so close to William and Kate’s kids, he cherishes the relationship he has with them, but it’s bittersweet because he doesn’t know Harry’s two at all."
However, about Meghan, sources tell Closer magazine the Suits star is adamant her family's future is in the US, pouring cold water on expectations of the monarch to reportedly see them return to the palace.
But the insider points Charles "understands that Meghan has her reasons for being reluctant to bring the children to the UK, and he's not being dismissive."
However, what the King reportedly opines is that "It’s gone on far too long and that if Meghan wanted this to happen, it would."
Here, he wants, sources say, his son, Harry, to take a clearer stance on the matter. ‘Harry is too protective to put the blame on her for the kids not seeing their grandfather, but everyone knows she’s calling the shot."
"Charles isn’t in contact with Harry a whole lot, but they are in touch, and he’s been pushing Harry to take a firmer stand and push Meghan to let this happen," the insider concludes.
