Andrew labelled ‘arrogant’ as staff recall furious encounters
Staffer recounts moments with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, prior to his stripping down
A former Royal Family employee has revealed he was left so furious by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s behaviour that he wanted to “deck” the disgraced royal following a deeply rude encounter.
Since Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was stripped of his titles and honours, a growing number of former palace staff and royal insiders have begun speaking openly about what they describe as years of arrogance, entitlement and appalling manners.
According to royal biographer Andrew Lownie, one former staff member, identified as Burgess, described repeated encounters with Andrew during visits to Clarence House that left him seething.
Burgess claimed the former prince spoke to staff “as an officer talks to his subordinates,” barking orders without courtesy or basic respect.
“He would say things like, ‘I want this done and I want it done now,’ or ‘Have that done by such and such a time,’” Burgess recalled.
“I remember him always saying ‘Do it!’ which was his catchphrase of sorts.”
The former staffer said Andrew ignored attempts at conversation, made inappropriate jokes and displayed what he described as a staggering level of entitlement.
“He was as charming as a bull in a china shop,” Burgess said, adding that Andrew was “the most out-of-touch royal I’ve ever met” and genuinely believed in the “Divine Right of Kings”.
Another damning account comes from Ken Wharfe, the former personal bodyguard to Princess Diana and her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
Wharfe recalled an incident on a return flight from Balmoral when he was asked to give up his seat so Andrew could enjoy the window view.
“Unlike the rest of his family, Andrew has always proven to be a very arrogant individual,” Wharfe said.
He added that the former duke routinely looked down on those in public service, describing his attitude as deeply classist and dismissive.
Wharfe also claimed Andrew’s behaviour did little to endear him to anyone, saying his manners were “just awful” and his sense of superiority impossible to ignore.
