George, Amal Clooney to start new year with major citizenship move
George Clooney and Amal Clooney tied the knot back in 2014 in Venice, Italy
George Clooney and Amal Clooney will kickstart the new year as French citizens.
According to a French outlet, the Journal officiel, the couple and their 8-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, have officially obtained French citizenship.
It is pertinent to mention that George and his family's primary residence has already been in France, as he owns his family home there. He also owns a villa in Italy, an estate in England, and Kentucky.
In a previous chat with Esquire back in October, the 64-year-old actor opened up about his life in Europe with his family, sharing why he was worried of raising kids in Los Angeles.
George said, "You know, we live on a farm in France. A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid, I hated the whole idea of it."
"But now, for them, it’s like—they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life," he noted at the time.
The father of two also expressed his worry about "raising our kids in L.A., in the culture of Hollywood."
"I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life," he added. "France — they kind of don’t give a s*** about fame. I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”
