Harry, Meghan presence at royal Christmas to cause ‘controversy at worst possible time’
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may receive an invitation from King Charles to celebrate Christmas with royal family
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may get an invitation from King Charles to celebrate Christmas with the royal family at Sandringham.
However, royal aides fear that the presence of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could cause “more controversy” for the royal family “at the worst possible time.”
This comes amid reports that the monarch may invite the Sussexes as he fears that it could be his last Christmas despite positive health update.
An insider said that Prince William could also not support Charles in inviting Harry and Meghan, adding, “the truth is that the strain between Prince William and Prince Harry has not been resolved."
Another senior aide shared, "Having the Sussexes present would inevitably become a major distraction.
“Even a brief appearance would dominate headlines and risk overwhelming what is meant to be a private family celebration,” they continued.
"The overriding fear is more controversy at the worst possible time. There is still deep unease about trust, and many within the family worry that private moments could once again become public."
Charles, who recently revealed that his cancer treatment will continue in 2026, has not “completely ruled out” inviting his estranged son to “spend time with his immediate family.”
“There has always been a sense that the emotional door was never fully closed,” they continued.
“After such a turbulent year, particularly given the king's health and the continuing repercussions from dealing with Prince Andrew, it is understandable that Charles would want this Christmas to carry deeper meaning.
"And despite his positive cancer updates, he knows if things take a turn for the worse, it could be his last Christmas,” the insider added.
