Kylie Minogue scores first Christmas no. 1 with ‘Xmas’
With Xmas, Minogue becomes the first female artist to score UK No. 1 singles across four different decades
Kylie Minogue has landed her first-ever UK Christmas No. 1 and her eighth chart-topping single overall with the festive track Xmas.
The song beat Wham!’s Last Christmas, which had topped the chart for two years and now fell to No. 2. Charity single Lullaby from Together for Palestine also charted, peaking at No. 5.
“It’s hard to put into words how special this feels,” Minogue told Official Charts. “Being Christmas No. 1 really is the most wonderful gift.”
The achievement marks Kylie’s first UK No. 1 in 22 years, following Slow in 2003, and only her second solo Top 10 hit since 2010’s All the Lovers.
With Xmas, she becomes the first female artist to score UK No. 1 singles across four different decades.
She is also one of the few Australian artists to top the Christmas chart, following Nicole Kidman’s 2001 duet with Robbie Williams, Somethin’ Stupid.
The milestone is also a first for Amazon as Xmas is the first Amazon-commissioned song to reach Christmas No. 1. Previous near-misses include Tom Grennan and Sam Ryder, while Ellie Goulding topped the chart shortly after Christmas in 2019 with her Amazon-exclusive cover of River.
Amazon Music executive Alex Nutton said the company aims to create modern holiday songs with lasting appeal.
