Queen Victoria, Prince Albert’s love of reading explored: Video
Take a peek inside Prince Albert’s personal copy of Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice
On the 250th anniversary, since the day Jane Austin came Earthside in 1775 the Royal Collection Trust has just shared a snippet from the personal copy Prince Albert used to have of her book Pride and Prejudice.
According to the Trust’s official Instagram account the couple was known for sharing a love of reading, one that they often read together.
A brief history of the book was also provided in the same video, and revealed that the book was original published in January of 1813, in three volumes but anonymously, and the royal library’s copy of this is from the later edition that came about in 18513.
The Queen’s diary even reveals the exact date and day that her husband started reading the book and rounds it off to July 22nd of the same year.
