Eric Idle reminisces about his last conversation with Rob Reiner
Eric Idle remembers his last conversation with the late Rob Reiner
Eric Idle recently revealed he was conversing with the “clever, talented and very thoughtful” Rob Reiner just a few hours before he was murdered.
For those unaware, Rob, the renowned American film director, producer, screenwriter, actor, and political activist, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found lifeless with apparent stab wounds at their residence in Los Angeles on December 14, 2025.
The deceased couple’s son, Nick Reiner, 33, who is a screenwriter by profession, is alive and being questioned; however, no arrests have been made.
As soon as the news of Rob’s tragic killing went viral, Idle unveiled in a tweet that he spoke to him for over an hour “last night on the phone.”
He wrote, “He was telling me about fiming [sic] at Stonehenge and his thoughts for the future. This is so awful. I shall miss him. A clever, talented and very thoughtful man. So awful.”
The 82-year-old American actor and comedian and Rob had known each other for five decades, as they first met at Idle’s “Dad’s in 1975.”
It is pertinent to mention that the late Hollywood star directed several hit movies after his directorial debut in 1984, including This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally... (1989), Misery (1990) and A Few Good Men (1992).
Notably, Rob Reiner became famous for playing Mike on the Norman Lear TV sitcom All in the Family before he showcased his directing skills.
