King Charles gave a rare update on his cancer treatment on December 12 as part of this year’s Stand Up to Cancer campaign.
Wearing a pin-striped suit for the address, the King urged the masses to go for cancer screenings, no matter how “frightening, embarrassing, or uncomfortable” they may feel.
He also shared that early detection of his own cancer has led to a reduction in his treatment.
"I know, too, what a difference it has made in my own case, enabling me to continue leading a full and active life, even while undergoing treatment," he said of early detection.
"Indeed, today I am able to share with you the good news that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to ‘doctors’ orders’, my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the New Year," he shared, calling the news a "personal blessing."
Now, a Palace spokesperson has explained what the King’s update really means, saying, "His Majesty has responded exceptionally well to treatment and his doctors advise that ongoing measures will now move into a precautionary phase."
"This position will be continuously monitored and reviewed to protect and prioritise his continued recovery," they reassured.
"As The King has said, this milestone on his recovery journey is 'a great personal blessing.'"
In his address, the 77-year-old monarch hailed the new national Screening Checker as a "simple tool" that lets people check whether they’re eligible for breast, bowel or cervical cancer screening.
"It demystifies the process, answers your questions, and guides you towards taking that crucial step," he said.
King Charles was dignosed with cancer in February 2024 and has been receiving treatment ever since.
