King Charles has reluctantly accepted Prince William’s plans to modernize royal traditions, including ending the long-standing gag-gift exchange at Christmas.

According to reports, the Prince of Wales wants to end a key royal tradition, where senior royals open cheap novelty presents first while junior members wait.

A source told Radar Online that the tradition has been part of the family’s holiday celebrations for decades at Sandringham.

But William is not fond of it as he prefers informal celebrations with his wife Kate Middleton and their kids at Anmer Hall and sees the ritual as outdated and patronizing.

"William has made it very clear he thinks the whole thing feels out of step with the country. He believes lining people up by rank to receive joke gifts sends the wrong message in an era when so many families are struggling,” an insider said.

They added, "He sees the gift being viewed as a joke among the richest people in Britain as patronizing to the poor and completely at odds with the kind of monarchy he wants to build."

As for the monarch, he is hesitant to give up the tradition and plans to continue it as long as he has throne but would allow William to follow his heart later on.

"Charles keeps it going because it connects him to his mother,” the source said, referring to late Queen Elizabeth II.

"But he knows William doesn't see it the same way and wants to change things when he takes the throne,” they added.
