In the historic game, BYU secured a Big 12 Championship Game berth with an Arizona State loss.
On Friday night, Arizona State was defeated at the hands of Arizona in the Territorial Cup, moving Arizona to 9-3 on the season.
The defeat of Arizona State eliminated both Utah and the Sun Devil from the competition.
As a result, the league title game will feature Texas Tech football game and BYU facing off at AT & T Stadium in Arlington for the championship.
In the rematch, the stakes will be higher as the winning team will automatically earn a College Football Playoff bid.
This championship will be BYU’s first conference championship game since 1998 when Air Force outcompeted the Cougars, leading it to lose WAC title in 20-13 fashion.
The game will also mark the first appearance in the Big 12 game for Texas as well.
The highly-awaited game will be played on December 6 at 11 a.m. Central. It will be aired nationally on ABC.
Given the unpredictable and competitive nature of the Big 12 Championship Game, the winner of the 2025 championship will be the 6th different team to clinch this title.
It means that no single team has been dominating the conference.
BYU has also not won the championship for a very long time. Similarly, Texas Tech has never won the Big 12 title since its league’s membership in 1996. The only football title they won was co-championship in 1976.
