President Donald Trump has slammed six Democratic lawmakers for “seditious behavior punishable by death” after they released a video calling troops to disobey the President's orders, sparking fury in Congress.
President Donald Trump on his social media platform Truth Social labeled them as “really bad and dangerous to our country,” stating their words could not be allowed to stand.
The video features a number of Democratic lawmakers from the Senate and House, urging serving personnel: “Don’t give up the ship.”
The video was shared by Senator Elissa Slotkin from Michigan and featured Arizona Senator Mark Kelly and Representatives Maggie Goodlander of New Hampshire, Jason Crow of Colorado, and Chris DeLuzio and Chrissy Houlahan, both from Pennsylvania.
It followed after multiple posts on Truth Social, using terms such as “LOCK THEM UP???” and “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!!”
Meanwhile, Trump did not hold back, sharing multiple posts that accused the lawmakers of sedition on Thursday morning, November 20.
He wrote, “It’s called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. EACH one of these traitors to our country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL.
Their words cannot be allowed to stand—we won’t have a Country anymore!!! An example MUST BE SET.”
As soon as Trump’s posts appeared on social media, they sparked an outcry from Congress.
The lawmakers responded that Trump’s remarks amounted to threats against elected officials and called them dangerous.
They released a joint statement that reads, “No threat, intimidation, or call for violence will deter us from that sacred obligation.”
Democratic House Whip Katherine Clark criticized Donald Trump's remarks, demanding the posts must be deleted by Trump.
She posted on X, writing, “This is a new low—even for Donald Trump. His threats against patriotic members of Congress are disgraceful and disgusting. We should not have to remind the president that there is no place for political violence. He needs to delete his posts now.”
Senator Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called the comments, while speaking on the Senate floor, “an outright threat" and said that Trump was “calling for the execution of elected officials.
This is an outright threat and deadly serious.”
On the other hand, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt rejected that Trump was calling for execution, stressing that the focus should be on the lawmakers’ own statement urging service members to disobey lawful orders.
She stated, “They are literally saying to 1.3 million active duty service members to defy the chain of command, not to follow lawful orders. It perhaps is punishable by law.”
