King Charles received a special birthday surprise during his latest outing with Queen Camilla.
His Majesty marked his 77th birthday on Friday, November 14, visiting Cyfarthfa Castle in South Wales with the Queen. But he was not expecting the surprise that awaited him.
The event brought together local groups connected to the couple’s patronages, including representatives from The King’s Trust and the Royal Osteoporosis Society. Guests also included Welsh actress and writer Ruth Jones, designer Julien Macdonald, and several small Welsh businesses such as Cocos Coffee and Candles and Enaid Wellness.
In a video shared by the Royal Family’s official Instagram page, Charles walked into a room full of guests who immediately burst into “Happy Birthday,” prompting a visibly moved reaction from the King as Camilla beamed beside him.
“What a special birthday surprise at Cyfarthfa Castle - showcasing what the Welsh do best!” the caption read.
The monarch then cut his castle-shaped birthday cake as attendees looked on before heading outside to greet well-wishers gathered beyond the castle grounds.
The cake was prepared by cake artist Emma Jayne, who revealed on Instagram, “I had the huge honour of creating King Charles III birthday cake and presented his majesty with the cake today.”
Earlier in the day, the Palace also marked the milestone by releasing a new portrait of the King, writing, “77 today! Thank you for the kind words and well wishes on His Majesty’s Birthday.”
Prince William and Princess Kate joined in with their own tribute, sharing, "Happy Birthday to His Majesty The King!"
Charles is also scheduled to make several stops in Wales later in the day as part of his birthday celebrations.
