Princess Anne begins crucial Australia visit to strengthen King’s reign
Palace entrusts important role to Princess Anne in Australia as King Charles leads royals for key event in UK
The Princess Royal, accompanied by her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, landed in Australia on Saturday, to dive right into a busy week of royal engagements.
Princess Anne is undertaking a four-day visit to Down Under, not only returning to the country first time in two years, but also being the first royal to follow-up after the State Visit from King Charles and Queen Camilla last year.
Anne and Sir Tim arrived in Sydney, surrounded by five security guards, and taken to her first engagement of the day.
Buckingham Palace confirmed that the 75-year-old and her husband will be carrying out a number of events to mark Armistice Day, spreading the engagements through Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
In her capacity as the Colonel-in-Chief, Royal Australian Corps of Signals, she will be marking the centenary of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals.
The couple will be laying down the wreath at the Anzac Memorial to mark Remembrance Day, meanwhile the King will be preparing to lead the Remembrance Day events in London for the royal family.
Anne and Sir Tim were welcomed by the Governor-General of Australia Sam Mostyn, at Admiralty House in Sydney. As they arrived, a smoking ceremony was held in honour of their visit by Cammeraygal Elder Brendan Kerin.
After concluding their visit in Australia, the two of them will be headed for another crucial mission in Singapore, “to mark 60 years of diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and Singapore”, the Palace stated.
