Prince Harry honours special royal connection in update from Canada
Duke of Sussex Office releases key highlights from important Canada visit
Prince Harry arrived in Canada for a significant visit to show his solidarity just as his brother Prince William wrapped his climate-focussed event, Earthshot Prize Award, in Brazil.
Just after the Duke of Sussex declared his devotion to Britain and the service in a moving letter, he kicked off an emotional visit centred around commemorating Remembrance Day in Toronto, meeting with soldiers from two historic Army Reserve units.
King Charles is the head of state of the Canada and Harry has served in the British army for almost a decade. Hence the visit also honoured the connection the regiments have with the royal family.
The Sussex office on Wednesday shared highlights from Harry’s visit which began meeting members of the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada and the Royal Regiment of Canada.
The Queen’s Own Rifles was founded in 1860 and it is Canada’s oldest continuously serving infantry regiment. The Royal Regiment of Canada is also one of the country’s oldest infantry regiments that has participated in nearly every major Canadian military operation since the Fenian Raids of 1866.
Harry then observed demonstrations from the base’s dive team, deck team weapons display, operations team, and band members, speaking with personnel in attendance about their dual roles as reservists and civilians.
The visits have put a spotlight on the vital roles that the forces have played to create a bridge between military and civilian communities while maintaining operational readiness for deployments worldwide.
The statement from the office “acknowledged the dual commitment required of reservists and the families who support them”.
