Tom Hanks shares untold truth behind scrapped original 'Toy Story' movie
Tom Hanks to voice Woody again in 'Toy Story 5'
Tom Hanks has unveiled a rare insight about his most popular animated film series, Toy Story.
The 69-year-old actor has been voicing the character of "Woody" since the inception of the franchise in 1995, while Tim Allen voiced "Buzz Lightyear" for years.
They have continued to lent their vocals for 30 years now and are still doing it.
Recently, Hanks appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to mark the 30th anniversary of the series.
During the chat he disclosed that the original film made in the 90s was scrapped initially and made again.
“Actually, it was more than 30 years ago, because Tim Allen and I and everybody involved, we recorded a Toy Story movie, about 80 minutes of it that was completely thrown out”, the Terminal actor added.
According to Tom, the cancelled version had a completely different plot than the one released in cinemas.
The original version was taken down as the executives wanted the Forrest Gump actor and Tim to “wisecrack-y and improv and insult each other.”
The American actor and filmmaker said that they did do it for a while, but Tom revealed, “Quite frankly, it didn’t work. It wasn’t Toy Story. It wasn’t what Pixar was going for.”
Director John Lasseter then called Hanks and told him that it not working and he would like to start all over from scratch.
“So then we began the process all over again, which is about a two and a half to three-year process”, revealed Tom.
Toy Story 5 is coming to theatres on June 19, 2026.
