Keira Knightley opens up about her struggle with postpartum depression
English actress Keira Knightley reflects on hormonal crash and battling with postpartum anxiety
Keira Knightley has recently confessed she struggled with postpartum depression.
The Pride & Prejudice actress reveals she faced postpartum figure as well as she experiences a “hormonal crash” which made her to go to therapy.
“I remember the kind of hormonal crash. I’d been on this amazing hormonal high, and then there was a crash down. I think after that it was post-natal depression for a while,” recalls the 40-year-old during an appearance on Giovanna Fletcher's Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast.
The Woman in Cabin 10 actress shares she did “lots of therapy” about a year, “maybe a couple of years later, to sort of deal with all of that”.
However, Keira mentions, “It was confusing, not having that physical side of it made everything more confusing.”
While talking about sleep deprivation, the Atonement actress points out that there “wasn’t any sleep for three years and that was for a completely normal birth”.
“There were no major complications; it went pretty well, especially for a first birth. The baby was fine. I was fine,” she notes.
Keira tells podcast host, “Everything was fine and still, despite everything being completely fine, this huge, life-altering thing had happened.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the actress addresses her postpartum body, as she was shocked not to be able fit in her jeans.
“I was very surprised that it didn't… I've always had a body where I did, I had to do very little, and it was just one of those thin bodies, you know, it came back,” explains Keira.
The fact is she was “surprised, but then she had more “important things to think about”.
“I'll just buy a bigger size of jeans,” she concludes.
