Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold to debut at APEC summit

Samsung Electronics is poised to release its most radical smartphone in years, the Galaxy Z TriFold at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.

The APEC 2025 Economic Leaders’ Meeting will take place in Gyeongju, South Korea, from October 28 to 31, 2025.

According to reports from industry sources including Bloomberg and CNN, the tech giant plans to launch the much-anticipated device that folds in two places.

The TriFold showcases a significant upgrade of Samsung’s current bi-fold models.

The newly introduced model will offer a tablet-sized display when fully unfolded, while maintaining the profitability of a standard smartphone when closed.

The introduction of Galaxy Z TriFold is viewed as a tactic to solidify Samsung's position as a market leader in the foldable sector, where it held a 32.9% share in 2024 amid growing competition from Huawei, Motorola and Google.

In a significant shift, company insiders report that the TriFold is expected to be released in the US.

This would be a change of direction for Samsung, which has been accustomed to launching innovative new product lines in select markets, such as the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition it introduced last year, in markets like South Korea and China.

This launch is at a critical juncture in the smartphone industry. As people are keeping their devices longer, companies such as Samsung and Apple are introducing bold new designs that are expected to help jumpstart the market.

Apple has just introduced its remodelled iPhone Air, and Samsung has its boldest answer to date, the TriFold.

It is a gamble that people are willing to have an even bigger screen that can be turned into a pocket. Through this introduction, Samsung aims to give the modern mobile device a new appearance and a new role.
