Poland intercepts Russian drones in airspace violation, calls it ‘act of aggression’

Russian drones violated Polish airspace early Wednesday, September 10, prompting a military response from the Polish Army.

Polish forces shot down multiple drones, making Russian missile and drone attack unsuccessful.

The member of the NATO alliance highly condemned the incursion and stated it was an “act of incursion.”

According to the Polish authorities, the military radar tracked more than ten objects and all of them were “neutralized” before any possible damage.

The operation has been concluded and search teams are now locating the crash sites.

Authorities issued alerts in the eastern regions of Podlaskie, Mazowieckie and Lubin and urged residents to stay indoors.

In response, Polish Prime Minister, Donald Franciszek Tusk confirmed he is in “constant contact” with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and has called an emergency meeting of his cabinet.

Due to the operation, Warsaw’s Chopin Airport has been temporarily closed causing major disruptions in flight operations.

The incident marked the first time a country has been directly engaged and downed Russian assets in its airspace since the war in Ukraine started in 2022.

Following the Russian invasion, fellow NATO members expressed solidarity with Poland.

The Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson called the violation “unacceptable,” while Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs offered “full support and solidarity,” stating that Russian aggression directly affects all regional security.
