Warsaw, the capital of Poland, has opened for the first time a public library for its citizens, named “Metroteka.”
The library was built in the Kondratowicza metro station and has stored more than 16,000 books. Besides, it has a corner for children and a relaxation area for adults.
The library has unique features, as it is designed to host multiple cultural events for the local community and commuters. They commuters can borrow books any time from the library that has been constructed in a metro station.
The library—which is the first of its kind in Poland and called “Metroteka,” a play on the polish word for library, “”biblioteka”—was inaugurated last week at Kondratowicza station on the metro’s M2 line.
The library received an overwhelming response on day one, as readers had borrowed almost 400 books.
The purpose behind it is to get closer to the culture, and establishing a library in a metro station is yet another innovative approach in this regard.
The Metro transportation is considered one of the fastest means of transportation in Warsaw, but now it also offers a breathtaking location to read books.
Although the library is spread over an area of 150 square meters, has a capacity of over 16,000 books, which includes many from the new publishing centers.
The designers make sure the library has space for incorporating wavy bookshelves, which make it possible to store such a large number of books, alongside tables and a place allocated for a children’s corner.
Not just that, but also “Metroteka” also offers laptops to its visitors, allowing them to work in the space if required.
Books without a cup of coffee are hard to digest; therefore, the library also has a self-service coffee machine area, where commuters can enjoy a cup of coffee, tea, or cocoa.
And, while commuters are on the go, the library is equipped with modern technology to allow visitors to borrow and return books without any hassle.
The library offers a complete state-of-the-art facility, providing a peaceful and hassle-free environment for commuters to read and relax while on the go.
