World Cosplay Summit WCS is the annual international cosplay event held in Japan, considered as the most vibrant and popular part of Tokyo’s pop culture and it promotes global interaction through Japanese popular Otaku.

According to Japan Times, the annual extravaganza event usually held in Japan, where thousands of people from all over the World embody their chosen anime like manga and gaming avatar characters in elaborate costumes, outlandish eccentric hairdos and zany face paints, often intended to be eye-catching and attention grabbing.

According to Ministry of Japan MOJ, World Cosplay Summit for this year was held in Nagoya, Japan on August 1 to 23, 2025.

As reported by multiple news sources, Japan had experienced the hottest summer this year with highest temperature records.

While dealing with such high temperatures, dressing up at World Cosplay Summit can be sweaty. So, organizers of WCS have pushed the 2027 edition to November after this year's event that occurred in record heat.

"This change was made in response to the extreme heat and other weather conditions," stated the World Cosplay Summit event executive committee.

The move was also initiated to "strengthen our efforts to accommodate more international participants and to take into account trends in domestic and international tourists".

According to CNN, Japan set a new high record of 41.8 degrees Celsius in July, 2025. 

The country's Fire and Disaster Management Agency confirmed that more than 50,000 people were treated in hospitals due to heatstroke.

Preliminary findings from the Tokyo Metropolitan Medical Examiner's Office reported 56 people in central Tokyo likely died from heatstroke this June and July.

The Term Cosplay is a slang used for “costume play”. Cosplay refers to the activity or practice of dressing up as a "anime or main character" from a work of fiction such as a comic book, television shows or video games.
