King Charles sends urgent letter to Trump after receiving devastating news
British Embassy in U.S. issues update as King Charles sends personal message
King Charles sent an urgent letter to U.S. President Donald Trump after he learned about a tragic incident.
The monarch extended his deepest sympathy as the personal letter was delivered through the British embassy in Washington D.C. after the incident.
“Following the devastating flooding in Texas, His Majesty King Charles has written to President Trump to express his profound sadness at the tragic loss of life,” the statement read.
“He offered his deepest sympathy to all families who have lost loved ones and paid tribute to courage and selflessness of the emergency service and volunteers.”
Catastrophic flash floods had hit Central Texas over the Fourth of July weekend and caused devastation in its wake. The Guadalupe River rose over 26 feet in 45 minutes early Friday morning when heavy storms started. The floods have so far claimed the lives of 90 people.
Moreover, hundreds are still missing as homes and entire communities have been submerged. Emergency teams continue searching for survivors as the crisis deepens.
The King’s letter of support came as the authorities received severe backlash over inadequate response to the crisis especially due to Trump’s funding cuts. Reports suggested that many were not able to either evacuate in time or did not receive warnings at all.
“Blaming President Trump for these floods is a depraved lie, and it serves no purpose during this time of national mourning,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in response on Monday.
