Govt launches fan replacement programme to cut electric consumption
Finance ministry highlights importance of the energy efficiency programme in contributing to economic stability
ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to launch a countrywide programme, aiming to replace fans with energy-efficient electric fans in order to reduce electric consumption.
According to finance ministry's statement, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb chaired a high-level meeting on Monday to review the progress of Prime Minister’s Fan Replacement Programme wherein the Minister for Power Awais Leghari, governor State Bank and other senior officials participated.
The purpose of the meeting was to review and speed up the launch of the programme.
The participants reviewed the progress shared by National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) on progress regarding completion of key preconditions — including finalisation of agreements with participating banks, integration of banking systems, and the facilitative role of the Punjab Technology Investment Board and Power Information Technology company in providing innovative solution for speedy implementation.
Finance minister highlighted the significance in promoting energy efficiency, fostering financial initiative, and contributing to economic stability.
“The program[me] has the potential to influence consumer behaviour positively, reduce energy consumption and offer broader economic benefit,” said the minister.
Senator Aurangzeb appreciated the active participation and colloborative efforts of all stakeholders — particularly in banking sector — in advancing this vital national initiative.
He directed that all requisite actions be completed within the next two to three weeks in order to enable the launch of the programme's first phase, along with the initial batch of participating banks, by the end of the month.
The meeting concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to the timely and smooth implementation of the programme, aligning with the government’s broader goals for economic and energy sector reforms.
