King Charles Office releases statement after historic balcony appearance
Buckingham Palace marks 'truly triumphant' event despite Prince Harry, Meghan Markle's absence
King Charles, Queen Camilla and the senior members displayed the pomp and fanfare that the royal family is known for on Saturday.
The historic royal calendar event Trooping the Colour, which marks the official birthday of the monarch with a parade, brought together royals during a much-anticipated balcony appearance as they watch the flypast – signalling the conclusion of the ceremony.
Despite being a modern addition to the 200-year-old tradition, the balcony appearances hold significance as they are recorded as historical events in the royal family.
Following the splendid photo op, Buckingham Palace released a statement expressing gratitude to the teams involved in a “truly triumphant” event.
“A huge thank you to our Military personnel for a truly triumphant Trooping today!” the message read alongside the footage of highlights. “Over 1,000 soldiers, around 200 horses and approximately 300 musicians came together in a display of Military precision, horsemanship and fanfare to mark The King’s official birthday.”
It continued, “And what a great way to conclude the celebrations, with a flypast from our friends @RAFRedArrows flying for the first time with a mix of sustainable aviation fuel.”
The monarchs were joined by the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Prince William adorned his uniform while Kate Middleton opted for a teal Catherine Walker coat dress as Charlotte twinned with her mum. Meanwhile, George and Louis were dressed in dapper suits.
Also in attendance were Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Anne and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.
However, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were not present given that an invite had not been extended to them amid their growing royal rift.
Moreover, this year, members of the royal family taking part in the parade wore black armbands as a mark of respect following the Air India incident in Ahmedabad this week. A minute’s silence was also held.
