Angelina Jolie addresses humanitarian issues at the 2025 film gala
Oscar winning actress Angelina Jolie has marked a stunning comeback at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival after 14 years.
The 49-year-old served as this year’s Chopard Godmother at the biggest film gala. She attended the Trophée Chopard dinner on May 16 along with many a-list actors of Hollywood.
At the event, Jolie made an extremely moving speech, sharing her admiration for the global cinema while also addressing the heartbreaking stories of women who lost their lives in difficult times.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the Maria actress said, "We are brought to other lands, into private moments, even on the battlefield, we connect, and we empathize.
"Anything that is possible to make international cinema more accessible is necessary and welcome.”
Angelina added, "And none of us are naïve.”
In a powerful statement, she explained, “We know that many artists around the world lack the freedom and security to tell their stories, and many have lost their lives like Fatima Hassouna, killed in Gaza, Shaden Gardood killed in Sudan, and Victoria Amelina killed in Ukraine, and so many other extraordinary artists who should be with us now.”
For the unversed, The Tourist actress has been serving as a humanitarian for nearly 20 years now. Therefore, she took the opportunity to address global issues at an extremely high-profile event of the year.
