Over 200,000 sign petition calling to revoke Musk’s Canadian citizenship

A growing movement in Canada is calling for the government to revoke Elon Musk’s citizenship, with over 200,000 people signing a parliamentary petition accusing the billionaire of acting against the country’s interests, Guardian reported.

The petition, launched by writer Qualia Reed and supported by MP Charlie Angus, focuses on Musk’s close ties to Donald Trump.

Musk, who was born in South Africa, holds Canadian citizenship through his mother, Maye Musk. Petitioners argue that his role in advising Trump, who has repeatedly threatened Canada’s sovereignty, constitutes grounds for revocation.

The petition states that Musk’s involvement with Trump makes him "a member of a foreign government that is attempting to erase Canadian sovereignty." It calls on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to revoke Musk’s citizenship immediately.

Under Canadian law, citizenship can be revoked in cases of fraud or misrepresentation, but it remains unclear whether Musk’s political affiliations would be considered valid grounds for such action. If revoked, Musk would have to wait 10 years before applying for citizenship again.

Canada’s House of Commons will reconvene on 24 March, though political uncertainty could affect how the petition is addressed. The petition remains open until 20 June, giving more Canadians the opportunity to sign.
