Selena Gomez faces backlash as old controversies resurface amid deportation crisis
Pop queen Selena Gomez has found herself in hot water once again as old controversies have resurfaced, just as a new crisis involving mass deportations makes headlines.
However, the timing has raised eyebrows and fueled a fresh wave of criticism.
As the Calm Down hitmaker speaks out in support of immigrants caught up in mass deportations, critics are digging up her past, questioning where she really stands on social issues.
Though Gomez recently voiced her support for immigrant families, some are bringing up past choices like her collaboration with Woody Allen, silence on the Palestine conflict.
Back in 2017, the 32-year-old singer faced massive criticism for starring in Woody Allen’s A Rainy Day in New York, as many people were upset, pointing out the audacity of her working with Allen, who has long been accused of sexual abuse.
One user wrote: "Selena Gomez went out of her way to work with Woody Allen, who has been accused of being a pedophile and m*lesting his 7-year-old daughter."
Even though many users urged her to donate her salary from the film to abuse survivors, Gomez chose not to comment on the controversy.
And in 2023, the Benny Blanco’s lover faced backlash for taking a social media break as violence in Gaza heated up. While she expressed sadness over the situation, she decided not to take a stance on it.
While addressing the situation, she wrote: "A post won’t change the world."
One X user shared their thoughts and shared, "I can’t take her fake activism seriously anymore."
Earlier Selena Gomez dropped a crying video of her on Instagram related to deportation of Mexicans under President Donald Trump’s new policy.
