Camila Cabello breaks silence on Shawn Mendes, Sabrina Carpenter drama

Camila Cabello finally addressed the ongoing drama between ex-boyfriend Shawn Mendes and Sabrina Carpenter.

The Havana singer, who dated Mendes on and off for more than two years, recently released the single, June Gloom, from her new album, which is rumored to be about the Mendes.

“I wrote June Gloom after I had hung out with [the song’s subject],” she revealed to Nylon magazine.

“I went into the studio the next day and said, ‘Jasper, can you play me some beats?’ He was like, ‘This one, this one,’ and he skipped over June Gloom. I was like, ‘Oh wait! Go back!’” That’s when Cabello kicked him out of the studio.

The former Fifth Harmony member shared that while writing intimate songs, she prefers to be alone.

“When I know I’m about to be intimate, I don’t want anybody [there],” she explained. “I don’t want to be singing about feeling super horny, but then, like, this guy is right here.

Cabello revealed that she wrote the song “so fast” because to her “everything [was] so personal”.

She alluded that the song was not directed at the girl but it was targeting at her ex.

“I was like, ‘I’m writing this for you, b--ch,’” she said, “‘B--ch’ sounds like I’m talking about a girl. I just don’t want them to think it’s me being like girl-versus-girl. Can we say, ‘It’s about you, mother--r?’”

The interview comes Carpenter’s single Taste stirred speculations over a love triangle. In the song, the Espresso singer seemingly hints at Mendes running back to his ex, Cabello, after their brief relationship.

Cabello reacted to the song during her performance at iHeart Music Festival where she sang Señorita, the romantic duet with Mendes. During the performance, the singer chose to stay silent on word 'taste' as she belted out, “You say we’re just friends / But friends don’t know the way you taste.”

Cabello and Mendes dated from 2019 to 2021 and briefly got back together during April 2023 but split week weeks later.
