Karan Johar is currently gearing up for the release of his next film, Kill
Karan Johar has filed a petition with the Bombay High Court against the makers of the Hindi film Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar, requesting that his name be removed from the film's title.
The plea addressed the unauthorized use of his name in the film's title and called for an urgent stay on its release, scheduled for June 14, 2024.
It sought a permanent injunction and restraining order against the producers,
IndiaPride Advisory and Sanjay Singh, as well as writer-director Bablu Singh, to prevent the use of Karan Johar's name in the title.
The plea was brought before a single bench of Justice RI Chagla on Wednesday, with the court agreeing to hear it on Thursday (June 13, 2024.
The 52-year-old director emphasized that the film's title directly referenced his name, thereby infringing upon his personal rights, including rights to publicity and privacy.
The suit stated, "These trailers and posters have caused and are continuing to cause irreparable loss and damage to the goodwill and reputation of Johar."
"Further, such a release of the film with the title containing his brand name 'Karan Johar,' together or in parts, will cause irreparable loss and damage to the goodwill and reputation which he has gained after investing huge amounts of time, effort, and money."
Currently, Karan Johar is preparing for the release of his upcoming film, Kill, in his role as a producer. The film is slated to release on July 5, 2024.
