Barbra Streisand came under fire from fans after she commented on Melissa McCarthy's weight loss on Instagram.
Melissa, 53, shared a picture of herself and director Adam Shankman on Instagram on Monday, April 29, while they were at the Centre Theatre Group's 2024 Gala in Los Angeles, California.
Barbra, 82, was more intrigued by Melissa's weight drop than by the fact that she was there to honour her friend Matthew Bourne.
“Give him my regards, did you take Ozempic?” Barbra’s since-deleted comment read.
McCarthy's followers rallied over the Bridesmaids actress right away.
One Instagram user simply wrote, “Rude, Barbra,” while another added, “Babs. No, honey. Just no.”
Despite Barbra removing the comment, fans proceeded to make fun of the My Fair Lady star by ridiculing her for things like "Facebook auntie antics" after the well-known Instagram account Comment by Celebs uploaded a screenshot on their page.
“Babs giving major boomer energy here,” read one comment.
“Take the iPad away from Babs immediately!” added another Instagram user.
Barbra addressed the buzz about her comment on social media on Tuesday, April 30. “I went on Instagram to see the photos we’d posted of the beautiful flowers I’d received for my birthday!” she wrote.
“Below them was a photo of my friend Melissa McCarthy who I sang with on my Encore album. She looked fantastic! I just wanted to pay her a compliment. I forgot the world is reading!”
Many people felt that Barbra deserved a little grace in the situation.
“Leave Barbra alone, she would never do that on purpose. I believe she meant that for a private question. Can’t any of you show her some grace!” a fan wrote.
