Video: Joe Biden mocks Donald Trump with Solar Eclipse message
US President Joe Biden wants people not to be "silly" like Donald Trump
US President Joe Biden has taken a jibe at his rival, Republican presumptive candidate Donald Trump, by posting a message about the Total Solar Eclipse 2024, reminding people about safety.
In a video posted on X, formerly Twitter, the president stood at the same spot where Trump was seven years back during the Solar Eclipse.
Trump is the only president to pull off a mindless stunt of watching the Solar Eclipse without the eclipse glasses — even though they are available at places for free.
“An eclipse is worth marveling at,” Biden said, in the message posted on the president’s official X handle.
“But don't be silly, folks – play it safe and wear protective eyewear.”
Experts have warned that looking directly at the Sun as the Moon covers it is dangerous and could cause permanent damage to the eyes. That’s why authorities have also distributed free eclipse glasses to the masses.
However, it has no side effects on the people viewing it, not even pregnant women, experts said.
Trump was not the only person who attempted this stunt.
26-year-old Nia Payne saw the Sun for around six seconds as it passed over Staten Island, New York. She now has it burnt into her retinas forever.
The Total Solar Eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada shortly today.
