Diljit Dosanjh reveals he got assistance from Imtiaz Ali for 'Amar Singh Chamkila' role prep

Diljit Dosanjh, who will be portraying the role of musician Amar Singh Chamkila in the film of the same name, remembered receiving assistance from Imtiaz Ali while preparing for the character.

During an interview with PTI, the 40-year-old singer-actor shared that he didn't engage in much preparation to portray the role of Chamkila but it was the filmmaker Imtiaz Ali who took charge to prepare for the film.

Diljit also mentioned that he had to begin from scratch and let go of many things to portray the iconic character in the biopic.

He said, "It's a plus point in the life of an artist to do this. It's tough to start from zero because you often get lost in your own personality and you feel this is who you are (but) the best thing about an actor's job is that you get the opportunity to start from zero, and I look at this as an opportunity."

The Udta Punjab actor added, "He had a clear vision about the character of Chamkila. I knew Chamkila as an artist, but I had no idea about how he was as a person or how he would perform on stage. I got a lot of help from Imtiaz, sir."

Explaining why viewers should tune in to the upcoming movie, the actor also emphasized that the film offers more than just an artist's tale.

He also said that the film delves into the individual's journey and the events unfolding in Punjab during the 1980s.

Diljit "It is not a fictional story; it is true. I feel there's something to learn from this film, too. Those who don't know about Chamkila will know about him, and those who are fans of Chamkila will definitely watch the film." 

Diljit was last appeared alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu, and Kriti Sanon in Crew, released on March 29, 2024.
