Kylian Mbappé's performance guides PSG to Champions League quarter-finals after Real Sociedad rout
As PSG celebrates their advancement in Champions League, Kylian Mbappé's farewell performance will undoubtedly be remembered
Kylian Mbappé, despite his imminent departure from Paris Saint‑Germain, demonstrated that his PSG journey is not yet concluded.
In the Champions League, Mbappé scored two masterful goals early in each half to lead PSG to a 2-1 victory over Real Sociedad. This win kept PSG's title hopes alive and advanced them to the quarterfinals.
The coach charged with bringing in a new era after Mbappé, Luis Enrique, recognised the difficulty his squad faced in the first leg but applauded the immaculate execution in the second. He said, "If they play like this, they are candidates to win the competition, I have no doubt." Imanol Alguacil, the Real Madrid coach, highlighted PSG's "brutal" intensity, calling them a team "much stronger and much faster than us."

The game-changing moment arrived after just fifteen minutes, when Mbappé demonstrated his indisputable dominance. After being released by Ousmane Dembélé, he deftly manoeuvred around his opponent on the left flank, firing a hard shot into the far corner that beat Real Sociedad goalkeeper Álex Remiro.
Luis Enrique highlighted Mbappé's lethal prowess in the final third, stating, "When you leave him in the final third facing the keeper, he's lethal." Mbappé confirmed this assessment with a second goal on the 56th minute, displaying supreme ease as he calmly placed the ball past Remiro at the near post.
Real Sociedad, despite their second-half resurgence, couldn't overcome PSG's lead. Ander Barrenetxea's headed goal was disallowed, and various attempts were thwarted by PSG's solid defense, anchored by goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
In the end, Real Sociedad's late goal from Mikel Merino provided a glimmer of pride for their fans, acknowledging defeat to the superior team and the exceptional performance of Mbappé. The Real captain, Mikel Oyarzabal, summed up the sentiment, calling Mbappé "unique."
As PSG celebrates their advancement in the Champions League, Mbappé's farewell performance will undoubtedly be remembered as a testament to his skill and influence on the pitch.
