Oats is a popular superfood and considered a healthy option for breakfast. The presence of minerals and dietary fibre in oats help reduces the risk of health complications like heart disease, diabetes and obesity.

Interestingly, in addition to health benefits, a bowl of oats can do amazing wonders for your skin and hair as well.

Here are top five reasons to add oatmeal to your beauty regime:

1) Exfoliation

If you are looking for an exfoliator that isn’t harsh, removes dead skin cells, blackheads, excess sebum and maintains skin moisture? There is no better ingredient than oats that contain saponins which act as a natural cleanser.

All you need to do is prepare a simple scrub of oatmeal, lukewarm water, sugar and coconut oil. Apply this scrub on your face and let it stay for 20 minutes. Rinse off with water or clean your face with soft wet tissues. This will leave your skin supple.

2) Stubborn Acne

A bowl of oatmeal or oats contain zinc that may reduce inflammation and kill the acne-causing bacterial action. It contains compounds like saponins that remove excess oil from the skin and unclog pores that may trigger acne.

The best way to get rid of acne is to make a face mask with half cup of oatmeal and boil in the same amount of water. Then let it cool and later stir the mixture together until you get a fine paste. Apply this mask on your face for 20 minutes and rinse it off with warm water to achieve best results.

3) Facial Hair Removal

Facial hair is daunting for women and most of them visit a salon twice a month to get rid of their extra hair. With oats, they don’t need to experiment with their skin as it’s the best home remedy to get rid of unwanted facial hair.

All you have to do is prepare oats and banana mask for facial hair. Mix three tbsp finely milled oatmeal, two tsp sandalwood powder and five to six drops of rosewater or as required. Mix all the dry ingredients together in a glass bowl and then apply it to your face. Leave it on for at least an hour or overnight to achieve your desired result.

4) Itchiness

Worried due to oily and itchy scalp? Look no further and use oats, a natural moisturiser, which contain vitamin N that keeps your scalp nourished, clean and hydrated and away from oily, itchy scalp.

What you need to do is blend some oats into powder; mix it with water until you get a fine paste. Now apply this paste on your skin and itchy area for 15 minutes. Rinse it off with cold water and mild shampoo for effective results.

5) Scalp Detox

If you are suffering from oily scalp or dandruff, all you need is rolled oats and green tea. Mix both ingredients together and then brewed green tea along with rolled oats to make a paste. Now, massage this on your scalp before using a shampoo to get great result.
