Marlon Samuels slapped 6-year ban over ICC anti-corruption violation

West Indies cricket stalwart Marlon Samuels, a key figure in the team's T20 World Cup victories in 2012 and 2016, faces a significant setback with a six-year ban imposed for breaching the ICC's anti-corruption code.

The tribunal's decision centres on Samuels' failure to disclose payments, gifts, and hospitality during his involvement in the T10 league in Abu Dhabi, highlighting the gravity of the offences. This breach also included non-cooperation and obstruction in the ensuing investigation.

Alex Marshall, ICC General Manager of HR and Integrity Unit, stressed the ban's importance as a robust deterrent against future transgressions. Marshall noted Samuels' extensive international cricket career, spanning nearly two decades, and highlighted his awareness of anti-corruption obligations under the ICC's codes.

The effective date of the ban is November 11, 2023, despite Samuels' retirement. This development not only impacts his cricketing legacy, marred by longstanding on-field rivalries with players like Ben Stokes and Shane Warne but also serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing commitment to upholding cricket's integrity.
