Governor, chief minister urge students to work hard

NOWSHERA: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan and Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Monday inaugurated the Jalozai Campus of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar.

A large number of participants, including provincial ministers, parliamentarians, high-ranking government officials and local elders were present to witness the historic event at the campus situated at the Pabbi-Cherat Road here.

In his address, Governor Sardar Mahtab said that he was impressed by the architectural aesthetics of the campus building. He asked the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to keep the project on top of the priority list so that no hurdle could come in its completion.

The governor suggested to the HEC and provincial government to use the campus to develop a technology park in future, which will not only help the youth to get technical education under one roof but would also bring more development in the area.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said that he was happy to see such a facility of engineering education at Jalozai. He said the campus would prove to be a game changer for the area.

He congratulated the UET vice-chancellor for his efforts in completing the first phase of the campus in time and hoped that in coming days, Jalozai Campus would be one of the best engineering education facility in the country.

Pervez Khattak also announced regularisation of the 15 contractual employees of the campus. He also appreciated the efforts of vice-chancellor and his staff for not only completing the building but also started the classes in four different disciplines.

The governor and chief minister also inaugurated two hostels i.e. Jinnah Hostel and Iqbal Hostel for students of Jalozai Campus.Earlier, in his welcome speech, University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar Vice-Chancellor Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani said the Rs6.65 billion project would be a living campus where hostel facility would be available not only for the students but also for the faculty members. He said in coming days all the faculties at Jalozai Campus will be PhDs.

Highlighting the success of UET Peshawar as one of the premier universities of the country in the field of Engineering Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani said that the UET Peshawar is ranked fifth best university of the country in the field of engineering with more PhD faculty members.

He added that the university was providing quality education in the field of engineering to over 7,000 students in six different campuses. The vice-chancellor informed the participants of the event that currently Jalozai Campus was offering quality education to around 200 students in disciplines of Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Industrial engineering.

HEC Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said it was a historic event and hoped that Jalozai Campus of UET Peshawar would prove a platform for the youth of the area to get quality education at their doorsteps. He asked governor and chief minister to continue supporting the project so that it would further be boosted in future.

He suggested the UET administration to shift students from its main Peshawar Campus to Jalozai Campus. Dr Mukhtar supported the demand of UET vice-chancellor for improving the access to campus by asking the chief minister to look into the matter. He requested the governor and chief minister to call a combined meeting soon to look into the suggestion of giving Jalozai campus a status of full-pledged university.
