“We have lodged FIR [First Information Report] against 24 drivers, for installing blue lights and sirens and decorating their vehicles to give the look of the police squad vehicles,” Jamal Zeb Khan, the traffic police head, told reporters here on Tuesday. He said a special drive on the orders of Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hazara, Mazharul Haq Kakakhel, was launched against so-called police squad vehicles and those having tinted glasses earlier this month. “We not only removed blue lights, siren and other decorations on the spot but also lodged FIRs against owners and drivers of such vehicles under Section 171 of the Pakistan Penal Code,” said the official. He said during ongoing operation hundreds of such lights and other gadgets were removed. The official said police were also seizing motorbikes and vehicles being driven by underage drivers. “Since we started operation against under-age drivers, the accidents dropped drastically as motorbikes are only returned to fathers or teachers of minor violators,” he added.
