Students protest against college professor

MARDAN: Students of Government Postgraduate College Mardan on Thursday protested at Bacha Khan Chowk against a college professor for brandishing pistol at the institution.

The rally was organised by Muttahida Talaba Mahaz, a conglomeration of the college’s student union of different political parties. The rally was led by Mahaz president Mohammad Abbas Khan and other office-bearers, who alleged that Prof Jalil, supervisor for the college security, insulted the students and guests by brandishing a pistol at the premises. They said the college should be a weapon-free area and demanded action against him.

People urged to cooperate with police against crimes

The people at a public forum on Thursday urged to cooperate with the police by pinpointing out criminal activities in their respective localities to purge society of the crimes.

Held at Sheikh Maltoon town here, the forum was attended by a large number of people and local elders besides District Police Officer Sajjad Khan, Member Provincial Assembly Zahir Shah Toru, Deputy Superintendent of Police Muhammad Tayyeb Jan, station house officers of the area.

Speaking to the forum, the district police chief said that keeping a locality safe from crimes would benefit even the coming generations. He said the police were using both preventive policing to prevent crimes from happening and also proactive policing to raid dens and stop ongoing crimes in the district. “Policemen have also been directed to ensure respect of citizens in raids,” he added. The local elders lauded the public forum as a way to bridge the gap between the public and police, and assured their cooperation with the police against antisocial activities.
