PESHAWAR: The federal and provincial governments have been making efforts for legislation and ensuring its implementation for protecting human rights.
This was stated by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights, Sultan Mohammad Khan, while addressing a consultation workshop on the provincial human rights action plan.
The event was held by the Democracy Reporting International on Wednesday.
The minister was the chief guest at the workshop and Provincial Assembly members Asia Khattak, Madiha Nisar, Secretary Law and Human Rights Masood Ahmed and officials of the public and private organisations were in attendance. Sultan Muhammad stated that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision was to give the downtrodden section of society their basic rights.
The minister said the provincial government had approved Women Property Rights and empowered the provincial woman ombudsperson to ensure the implementation of the act and raise awareness in the society.
The minister hoped the bill against domestic violence would be approved by the provincial assembly soon.
He added that in the office of director-general of human rights, free helpline for registering complaints on human rights violations had been set up as well.
